I guess even Mexico doesn’t look at other places. Expecting so-called renewables to help majorly with the grid is a super pipe dream. Look anywhere in the world.
1. They are not friendly to the environment. Windmills kill millions of birds as does solar farms. They destroy the environment for nothing because they are highly inefficient.
2. They are massively expensive especially in a country where they are basically energy independent. Not to mention a lot more serious problem like water, solid waste, poverty, etc… Renewable energy shouldn’t even be on the list.
3. Almost all of the equipment is from China, Morena party is getting into bed with the CCP and this will have a serious effect in relations with the US especially after Trump is elected.

I feel sorry for the poor Mexican people who won’t benefit from all the wasted money this will cost.

“Projects already in the pipeline, including solar ones, are expected to add about 3.3 gigawatts to Mexico’s national grid this year, Bloomberg reported.” Its a start, it takes time to increase renewables, so it makes sense to first assure local production of gasoline. USA exports less to Mexico, so can produce less fossil fuels, win-win.
