1) Chinese EV manufacturers are owned and subsidized by the Chinese government. There no evidence of the subsidizing, yet world media states it as a fact.
2) What is the $7.5k rebate in the USA for EVs if not subsidy??? Uncle Sam pays $7.5k to the EV manufacturers.

The good old double standards.

With its natural resources Canada has had a “winning hand” against the United States but never played it. I don’t see it any different with Mexico.
Certainly ironic Biden would disqualify Chinese EV’s considering that Musk hates Democrats. Initially the wealthy Democrats were the early adopters of Tesla’s but that has changed now. I don’t know many people that would go near a Tesla. Not only because of Elon’s politics but the high cost of ownership. That people that leased them didn’t care but as more facts are coming out about longer term ownership it has proved to be a terrible choice of car company.

The Biden Administration has gone further by banning Chinese made EV’s and disqualifying some EV’s from the tax credit depending on the sourcing of parts. China’s response is to seek refuge by operating in MFN countries, including Mexico under the USMCA.

For its part, Mexico has to navigate through a web of trade crosscurrents to maintain its flourishing economy while preserving its sovereignty. Elections in Mexico and the US this year could destabilize trade relationships, especially if the Trump Administration returns to power. Mexico also has to contend with a rising Peso that could undermine its export growth, especially in the automotive sector. Overall, Mexico has a winning hand in trade relationships going forward, but it’s going to require intense, competent management by the next Mexican administration.

Maybe the Chinese have the right idea to force down the prices for EV cars

The total cost of Tesla ownership is ridiculously high. Availability of parts, long term reliability, accident repair costs, etc.
The Chinese have to build cars that pass American and European emission and safety standards and that is what they are doing. It is no longer about building junk vehicles for poor countries like Mexico.
