— The Red Cabbage (or Repollo Rojo): off the beaten path but a short ride from Olas Altas. Best mole and plato mexicano in a quirky, Fridaesque setting.
— Archie’s Wok: In Olas Altas near the muelle, great variety of Asian dishes. Their flan cocotiki is the best.
— Kaiser Maximilian: Also in Olas Altas. Elegant and consistently excellent restaurant with a focus on Austrian cooking. Best onion soup (light, not heavy) and apple strudel.
— Angolo di Napoli: Relatively new addition (about 4 years old?) located near the malecón bridge that serves excellent pizza and pasta on an outdoor terrace. Casual and inexpensive.

Would also add that we’ve had several excellent meals at the Fina Cocina del Barrio. Like the Red Cabbage, it’s off the beaten path but definitely worthwhile. Must have a reservation.

My 2 cents…

These are the ones that I can afford.

Of course, they close early … and too early for the dinner crowd…but the food and often the old sounds of Mexican clasics…is sooo relaxing.

Housemade pasta, fresh seafood, great wine selection and attentive service. Highly recommended!

I’d like to see you post some stories leaving the city to San Sebastián, Talpa de Allende, Ameca, Mascota, Mazamitla, Tapalpa, Guadalajara. The mistake people make in Mexico or anywhere they live is getting stuck in one place.
Ajijic is another. Fun for one night but so boring with grey hairs. Keep up the good work.
