I lived in Cabo from 2015-2022. The problem is that the “summer” is 5 months long — from June to October. I have yet to meet anyone who actually wants to be there during that time of year. It is often still uncomfortable come Halloween. And the lack of variabiity — day after day, month after month of humid, 95 degree heat — is oppressive.

Encouraging this sort of investment is short-sighted and selfish, and will not be seen as a wonderful step to a better world by regular Mexicans. I’ve lived for seven years in Jalisco’s small towns, and “los gordos” are rarely welcome, despite their fat wallets and real estate grand plans.

Golf courses traditionally use massive amount of pesticides and insecticides which sink into the groundwater. Also on the other side of the picture local are already priced out of the neighborhoods where they and their families have grown up. There are several additional reasons that these land grabs make me sad.
