This situation won’t get any better as CFE is not prepared.

All charming and cool, and a downtime to be cherished. Another is to be in the campo where it can be days before CFE can get to down power lines and every one in the area needs to complain loud and often to get a response. Here backup systems are a must to protect electronics and stored foods. We gringos more readily have the capital to make these investments.

Having traveled to many developing countries previously, power interruptions must be expected and Mexico is no different.

During my ten plus years as a resident in Mexico during my retirement years on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, I rather thought of it as being “the higher quality of life” and how fortunate I was to have found it late in life! My decision to move there never needed any justification. It enriched me for the rest of my life and still does at the age of 90. I am deeply grateful to Mexico for this wonderful life experience. And for the Spanish that I still speak daily with natives helping me out with my household chores and practicing the wonderful traditions and less stressful ways of looking at life in general. With my native Swedish language, I am working on becoming more and more fluent. I will give my native Swedish some credit for the almost perfect accent, including the “rolling” r’s. At least that’s what I am told and proud of it. It still calls for almost daily looking into the proper conjugation of the verbs that still need much improvement. To say that Spanish is easy to learn to speak well would be pretty ridiculous at best. But whatever it takes it has to be done to fully appreciate another culture.

Previous owner endured 3 full days of everything out except cooking. Lost all her food in a big fridge. She bought propane generator & I love her for it. We’re in campo so it is an expected frequent happening. And now with road work – they are cutting CFE line frequently. I also have Cheap UPC on all electronics. The brown-Outs can really hurt electronics. I took a 3 year desertion to USA out of last 25 MX life and I guarantee THIS IS NOT A LOWER QUALITY OF LIFE. No way, No how and with no need for justification. The
First time I was stuck in my car by a mx parade I started to freak- then I saw all the taxi guys get out and sit on curb & chill & so did I. A sensible reaction to a Mexicution (love word) But multi frequent no power for days — just find a fix.

I think that depends on your definition of quality of life. My wonderful neighbours contribute more to my quality of life than having electricity all the time.

We have flashlights and a few solar powered devices that keep us going. Our house has propane for cooking and heating hot water, so we’re able to cook and shower when the power is out. I don’t relish it, but I cope adequately when it happens. The tougher issue for us is when our water is turned off for 36 hours or more due to the lack of water to serve the area.

My two longest times without power was a hurricane in south Florida and a huge snow storm in Michigan. Not hours, days.
